Your questions answered
Yes, thermography is 100% safe. It uses infrared technology to detect heat patterns—there's no radiation, no compression, and no physical contact with your body. It's safe for everyone, including pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those with implants.
Thermography is an FDA-registered medical imaging technology that uses infrared cameras to detect and measure heat patterns on your body's surface. These thermal patterns reveal information about inflammation, circulation, and physiological changes—often before structural abnormalities appear. The cameras measure temperature variations as small as 0.1°C, creating a detailed heat map of your body.
Thermography measures physiology (how your body functions) by detecting heat and inflammation patterns, while mammography measures anatomy (structure) using X-rays to detect masses or tumors. Thermography is radiation-free and non-invasive. It's not a replacement for mammography but works as a complementary screening tool for a more comprehensive approach to breast health.
Thermography has been FDA-registered since 1982 as an adjunctive screening tool for breast health. This means it's recognized as a complementary method to be used alongside other screening tools, not as a standalone diagnostic device.
Thermography is not a diagnostic tool and cannot diagnose cancer. However, it can detect physiological changes—such as increased blood flow and inflammation—that may indicate areas requiring further investigation. Thermography is most valuable when used as part of a comprehensive screening strategy alongside other methods like mammography and clinical exams.
Thermography provides a full-body view and can detect inflammation, circulation issues, nerve dysfunction, musculoskeletal concerns, dental and sinus inflammation, and other physiological changes throughout your entire body—not just breast tissue.
Your appointment takes about 30 minutes. You'll relax in a private, temperature-controlled room for 10–15 minutes to allow your body to acclimate. Then, infrared cameras capture thermal images from various angles while you sit or stand in specific positions. The process is completely passive—no touching, no compression, no discomfort. You'll receive your results within 7–10 business days, along with a complimentary consultation to review your findings.
You can schedule online through our booking calendar or call us at (917) 697-7211. We have 10+ locations across Long Island, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Most locations offer appointments one day per month, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date and location.
No, you do not need a doctor's referral to schedule a thermography scan. Thermography is a preventative screening tool that anyone can access directly.
Preparation is simple. For 24 hours before your scan, avoid: exercise, hot showers or baths, saunas, lotions, deodorants, creams, or powders on your skin. Also avoid caffeine and smoking for 2–4 hours before your appointment. We'll send you detailed preparation instructions after you book.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that's easy to remove. You'll be provided with a gown for your scan. Avoid wearing jewelry, especially necklaces, as they may need to be removed. We'll provide you with a complete list of what to bring (and what to avoid) in your confirmation email.
The entire appointment takes approximately 30 minutes. This includes a brief acclimation period (10–15 minutes) to stabilize your body's surface temperature, followed by the actual scanning process (15–20 minutes). The scan itself is quick and effortless.
Thermography is typically not covered by insurance as it's classified as a preventative screening tool rather than a diagnostic procedure. However, we provide itemized receipts that you can submit for FSA/HSA reimbursement or insurance consideration. Many clients successfully use their HSA or FSA funds for thermography services.

Yes! Every scan includes a complimentary 15-minute consultation with a healthcare practitioner. They'll review your thermal images with you, explain what the patterns mean, answer your questions, and provide guidance on next steps if needed.
If your scan reveals areas of concern, your healthcare practitioner will discuss the findings with you during your complimentary consultation. They may recommend follow-up thermography scans to monitor changes over time, suggest lifestyle modifications, or refer you to your primary care physician or a specialist for further evaluation. Thermography is a screening tool, not a diagnostic tool, so any areas of concern should be followed up with appropriate diagnostic testing.
For initial baseline screening, we recommend an annual scan. If areas of concern are identified, your healthcare provider may suggest more frequent monitoring (every 3–6 months) to track changes over time. Thermography is most valuable when used consistently to establish patterns and detect changes early.
Absolutely! Thermography isn't just for women. Men benefit from full-body thermography to monitor cardiovascular health, inflammation, musculoskeletal concerns, circulation issues, and more. We offer optional testicular screening as part of our Full-Body scan for male clients.
Yes, thermography is completely safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Because it uses infrared technology with no radiation, compression, or contact, there are no risks to you or your baby. In fact, many pregnant and nursing women choose thermography specifically because it's a safe screening option.
Yes! Thermography is safe and effective for women with breast implants. Unlike mammography, thermography doesn't require compression, so there's no risk of implant rupture. It's an excellent screening option for monitoring breast health in women with implants.
There is no minimum age for thermography. Young adults, teenagers, and even athletes can benefit from thermal imaging to establish baseline wellness data, monitor inflammation, track injury recovery, or detect early physiological changes. Thermography is safe for all ages.
